Hello! Like many people, I'm a longtime Livejournaler who's working on making the switch over to Dreamwidth. But I've had my journal there since 2001--that's pretty much my entire adult life! Change is hard! In order to help me shift my focus over here instead of over there, I'd like to see if I can establish a more active group of DW-friends. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and my journal.

About me:
My name is Katie, I'm 38, I'm queer, and I'm female. I'm a writer and writing tutor by profession (I write fiction and book reviews; I tutor high school students and beginning creative writers). I grew up in the Hudson Valley in New York State, and currently live in Philadelphia. I live in a very old house with my girlfriend of eighteen years and our two cats. I love to read (favorite writers include E.M. Forster, Marilynne Robinson, Virginia Woolf, Pat Barker, Ursula K. Le Guin, George Saunders, etc). I also like cooking, baking, canning, and food preservation of all kinds; hiking and bird watching; gardening; swimming; watching baseball.... I'm a rather typical introvert and lead a fairly quiet life. I drink entirely too much tea.

About my journal:
I began my LJ as a reading journal, and still often post informal book reviews and thoughts on whatever I happen to be reading. In addition to books, I often post about food and the projects I undertake in the kitchen. Sometimes I use my journal to track goals. Sometimes I write about the things that are going on in my life. Rarely (very rarely) I share my writing. Sometimes I post about art, or the creative process, or a quotation that caught my attention. I tend to post about once or twice a week. There are often photos.

Something you might want to know:
I'm in the habit of unfriending folks if, after giving it a fair chance, it doesn't seem like we're clicking. I'd love it if you'd do the same, but if this is a problem for you, you may want to think twice about adding me. Also, I will admit that I'm not the world's best commenter. My intentions to comment are good and I do make an effort, but the follow-through is not always there. Just so you know.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I’m a fairly easy going introvert. Right now I’m a caregiver for my parents who have the same neurodegenerative disorder (one advanced, one early stages + cancer survivor. I buy lotto tickets now!) I’m in the process of enrolling into a teacher preparation program for elementary education. Sometimes caregiving is an isolating and lonely experience and boy, as the years go by I just really miss the earlier years of LJ when I met people from different places, and I haven’t found a similar sense of camaraderie on other social network platforms (besides Ravelry; IG was great until FB had to go and ruin it!)

I mostly post about: Can’t say I’m all that exciting. I expect to post what you'd find in a journal- what I’ve been up to, events in my life, my family, share music and maybe links to articles, and so on. I love the fiber arts. I have never been one for 'online' or social media. The internet for me has always been a useful tool but nothing more than that. Until now. Last week, I broke my leg. A displaced fracture. I had to have an operation to put pins in it, and naturally, I went and had a reaction to the anaesthetic because if you're going to do something, do it properly! So now I'm stuck on my ass for 'at least three months' while my body works on healing. Most of my hobbies are active and after a few days of being stuck on the couch, reading and watching TV, I'm looking for something less passive. My darling husband

I'm the sort of walking contradiction who wears flouncy dresses with leather jackets and biker boots. Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I'm a cis bi woman going into my second year of law school, because my last career decision was very regrettable, and I was diagnosed with ADHD a year and a half ago so that's been an exciting combination. I've been writing in fandom for ~15 years but between the ADHD and the law school and how much of your life can be swallowed up by trying to pay bills, I don't write as often as I used to. My other interests include TV shows, knitting and crochet, the CFL (I'm a Stamps fan), Canadian politics, cola bottle gummy candy, linguistics (that's the bachelor's degree--syntax and SLA what uppp) and video games, but of course that list is far from exhaustive because my interest is easily captured by new and shiny things. I'm on tenterhooks waiting to see who the new Chief Justice of the SCC will be (I'm hoping Justice Abella). That's what law school does to you; don't go to law school.

Love fandom, esp HP fandom but loath JKR and HP canon... if that confuses you, you may not like my journal (probably best known for meta rants, SurveyFail Ogi Ogas tentical porn, and various Snarry including Wandless, Pigfeathers and the WIP (a bittersweet potion) thats been waiting over a decade for the next installment because spouse & cowriter bugland and I never expected to be quadruple whammied with medical emergancies). Autistic and have Ehlers Danlos (genetic disease of connective tissue resulting in constant injuries and chronic pain). We have a mini farm with mini sheep, chickens, service dogs, african grey parrot, elderly cat i'm surprised is still alive and a few rats (this is actually way down from what we had before medical shit storm). financially poor, almost all my family is dead or disowned me, horrible social anxiety so no local friends, when not having a panic attack i am often depressed, haven't painted for over a decade due to arthritis, am nolstalgic for HP and LJ fandom when meta was frequent and indepth, canon was open, there was hope it wasnt one long cheesy calvanist tract..... i have no clue why i'm filling this out as i've no clue why anyone would want to friend me.

I'm an old school lj-er looking to start journaling again. I'm happily married to a quiet man. We have a very talkative cat. I work for a small university by day and am a writer by night. I met amazing people in my old LJ days and looking to meet future amazing people.

Describe myself in five sentences or less:

An introvert with many opinions which I fight to state despite being introverted. I am a qualified historian but yet to be able to put my degree to use so mostly remain a retail monkey. I'm a member of the SNP in Scotland and active in all senses whether that is being part of photo ops or posting leaflets or knocking on doors with a wide smile and a clipboard even if a Union Jack is in the plant-pot. I prefer reading factual books over fiction and take a personal pride in my cooking each night as given I'm at home most of the time I am the family chef. I am child-free and living at home while single but the love of my life is my lhasa-apso dog Nico who turns 5 in July and who was a huge factor in helping me overcome my social and general anxiety enough to function in the so called 'real world'.

Harry Potter. Star Wars. The Hunger Games. Middle Earth. Charmed. Though I don't talk about fandom that much in my journal to be fair.

I mostly post about: My life. I have a lot of health problems so my dw is an outlet to talk about that. My dog (and my mum's two we live with) come up a lot. My blog changes from week to week. Sometimes I talk about what I'm reading. Sometimes I post links to articles I find interesting. Sometimes I post quotes. I can't claim to be consistent but I'd like to think I'm interesting. I'm a good commenter when I connect with someone though.

How often I post/comment: I will post either every day or once every couple of weeks. It honestly depends on if I feel I have something credible to say. Twitter took a lot of those little posts away huh? I read every day so if I have something to say it would be daily but I don't always feel I DO have anything to say.

I've been blogging since forever. I've had several LiveJournals, back when LiveJournal was "in." I prefer Dreamwidth, because it's lightweight and pink.

I boast a Tumblr with thousands of followers, but none of them talk to me, so I decided to return here for the few that will.

You can find my interests in my profile. I am a super artsy intellectual--a true Brooklyn hipster. Oh, and I'm a 28 year old male who's never been kissed. I stay in my room, avoiding sunlight to prevent aging so I can make up for lost time. Someday.

Describe myself in five sentences or less:
Kind of awkward and shy, but I try not to come off that way. I love animals and wanna save them all. I've been a bookworm in the past but have fallen out of the lifestyle and I'm looking into picking it back up. It's my opinion that real life doesn't always have enough magic in it, so I tend to like fantasy/superhero genre shows, books and movies. In fannish speak, I'm a Slytherin, a Lannister, and a Noldo. I'm probably more Tina Belcher than I'd like to think.

Top five fandoms:
It's been years since I've written fanfic, but I run a Harry Potter read-along with some friends and I like to chat about fannish things with people with similar interests.
1. Harry Potter
2. The Silmarillion! Mainly anything to do with The House of Finwe. I think Tolkien seriously wrote this dysfunctional family just for me. Feanor is my dad. I love me some antiheroes.
3. DC/DCEU. I think the cinematic universe is weak so far, I still have hope! I should add that I haven't seen Wonder Woman yet, but I'm so excited that the reviews I've seen have been great.
4. Marvel/MCU. I'm planning on starting a full watch/rewatch of Marvel's movies, shows and shorts very soon. I'll likely be posting all about it as I go
5. Game of Thrones. The Starks are my babes but I'm a Lannister, I think.
Some honorable mentions: I'd love to see fanworks for Bob's Burgers, Attack the Block, Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus, American Gods book and TV, Chronicle,Gravity Falls, Teen Titans, The Incredibles, Vicious by VE Schwab, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Samurai Jack, Kubo and the Two Strings, Cowboy Bebop and tons of things I can't think of at the moment.

I mostly post about: Entertainment and media that I love. Writing. Online exploits. Maybe some of my photography in the future. (I'm trying to keep politics and real life complaints out of my journal. For reference, I'll say that I was raised in a liberal politics/conservative home values household but I'm very liberal).

How often I post/comment: I'm trying to start with at least once a week. It's likely to fluctuate between that and numerous times a week. I comment much more often.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I moved to the US when I was 3 and moved back back when I was 9, so my English is good. I'm a computer engineering graduate working in software programming. I've been an avid fan of Winx Club since 2005. I'm also great at geography and editing videos :-)

Top 5 fandoms:
The only fandom I've remained active for all these years is Winx Club (it's a major part of why I got an LJ to begin with), though I've also been a fan of The Amazing Race since the beginning. Currently I'm also into post-2010 animated Disney features (plus Inside Out), Equestria Girls, and whatever my eclectic tastes happen to fancy :-)

I mostly post about: Reactions to The Amazing Race (both US and Asia editions) dominated my LJ for the past couple of years, but 1) once upon a time, I made plenty of posts about Winx and the very occasional post on my life, and 2) I used to post plenty of icons at a now-defunct LJ community (had a good knack for it too :-)) I do hope to diversify, though...

How often do you post?: About once a month during TAR seasons (I try to gather several eps' worth of thoughts at a time) plus occasions I'm inspired to write about other things

How about commenting?: I've never been big on commenting for commenting's sake, usually only if I have something substantial to say. I prefer my comments to be more than simply "I like it! It's pretty!"

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I'm Finnish Literature Major from Uni of Helsinki and I just graduated, so we're living interesting times since I don't know what to do with myself and my life after 6 years of more or less intense studying. I'm passionate reader and a book-lover. I do cosplay with my partner in crime and I've been doing that for 7 years now, so it's probably not going to change anytime soon. I'm terrible easily addicted to new things and I'm a sucker for all kinds of geeky things. LGBT rights, feminism and all that jazz. I'm pretty liberal in my views; if you're happy and not hurting anyone then I don't care what you are/what you like, it's probably cool by me.

I mostly post about: Daily life, what I'm currently stressing/reading/eating/planning/doing/etc. I've never written a journal in English before, so I'm not sure what kind of topics I'll tend to go with this language. But since it's pretty hecking quiet in Finnish side of this site, I'm trying my wings out here as well. I'll probably worry a lot about cosplaying and how I hate my life choices, but hey, it's all in good humor.

I rarely post about: My relationship in terms of sex life or emotional struggles. Politics. I have strong political views, but current state of many things gets me so worked up and mad I feel it's just better not to write about those things after raging about them to all your friends and family.

My last three posts were about: Graduating, what I'm currently reading, money and how I really want to get our balcony to look nice, but how it's difficult when all out windows are facing South and it's like sauna out there and everything died last year, but now we're going to prepare ourselves to this battle with some tough-ass-plants that can survive in the sunlight.

How often do I post?: I aim for once a week but some times I write more, some times less, I don't know what happens now when I try tackling two languages at once. I'm not stressing myself about this matter, I'll write when I feel like I have something to write about.

How about commenting?: I comment if I feel like I have something to say. :)
