Name: teyla
Age: 30
Location: Germany
Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
- I have lived and worked in several countries, but currently live less than 30km from where I was born.
- I got into fandom at age 11 and made my older sister translate Sulu/Chekov fanfiction for me.
- I really like British TV, and my cat's name is Rassilon.
- I enjoy heartachey fic, and pairings where you don't know whether they're yelling because they're mad, or because it's their version of foreplay. (Maybe both?)
- It's been six years and I still don't understand Tumblr.
Top 5 Fandoms:
Hard to pin down. I tried.
The Thick of It - my current obsession
Doctor Who - recurring obsession, sort of a love-hate thing
Star Trek TOS - my first love, will always hold a special place in my heart
Due South - because it's Due South
House MD - an obsession from way back when that I've been having nostalgic feelings about
I mostly post about:
Fandom, real life, TV I've watched, writing woes, vidding woes, art woes, links to cool stuff I found on the internet
My last three posts were about:
1) The fic I'm currently writing
2) A job I might be getting
3) A link collection about Catholicism and Scotland in the 1980s (research for my current fic)
How often do you post? How about commenting?
I post maybe five or six times a month. I comment when I've got something to say. That said, I try to have something to say more often than not--my recent return to Dreamwidth was mainly fueled by wanting to talk to people, so I both try to comment regularly, and to keep the conversations in my own posts alive.

Date: 2017-04-13 02:50 pm (UTC)Please, do drag me - I am planning on getting my hands on the canon after Easter, and then I am more than happy to discuss stuff with you - fair warning, I am an English lit major (specialising in British lit and cultural studies), so I can get very geeky very fast. :D
As for House : I stuck with it till the end (although seasons six and seven were painfully sloppy in places) and I am actually due for a rewatch fairly soonish :)

Date: 2017-04-14 10:24 am (UTC)No worries -- if you scroll back about six posts on my DW, there's a gap of something like three years. I've also only recently come back.
so I can get very geeky very fast
I am absolutely down with that. Cultural studies are my jam (or more like my hobby; I haven't studied them officially but I love talking about them), and I'm fond of British culture and lit as I used to live there. Geeky is good!
Oh man, House. I think I quit watching somewhere around season 5, but I lost my fannish investment in season 4 when they introduced the weird duckling competition. I kept getting invested in all the new characters, and they kept dumping them! I also have to admit that I was a bitter House/Wilson fangirl and extremely mad about the Tritter arc. I recently watched the episodes starring Lin-Manuel Miranda in season 6 (cute enough, though yeah, a bit sloppy), and I did watch the finale when it aired. That was cute, though of course a little sad.
I've been thinking about rewatching. The show did have a few very entertaining moments and characters!

Date: 2017-04-14 03:58 pm (UTC)My gap is a year, since I made a point of posting for Christmas :) And I am writing up a long post re-introducing myself as we speak...it ought to be ready by Wednesday
Good to know though you may come to regret those words. Oh? How long have you lived there and where? I lived in Swansea, Wales for a semester during my studies (and even visited Torchwood ;))

Date: 2017-04-16 08:46 pm (UTC)According to Wales Online, in 2015 the memorial was apparently still there. If it's survived this long, I assume it's probably not been taken down. Ianto fandom was crazy, but I do like the fact that this memorial exists.

Date: 2017-04-15 05:09 pm (UTC)Okay, but don't say I did not warn you! :)
As for House: well, I guess it helped that I always watch and read media with a fannish attitude at the back of my mind. I don't expect much from canon anymore, and so I can't be disappointed by the not-so-good stuff..? Funnily enough, House was one of the fandoms that drove that attitude home and made me one of the people who slowly back away when TPTB look as if they want to pick up something fandom either created or made a thing: I don't know whether you know this, but season seven actually made House and Cuddy an item and then had them come down crashing and burning (largely because they wanted to write Lisa Edelstein out of the show). Now, while I wasn't a shipper in that fandom, I have this thing for bickering couples (what can I say, Jane Austen got to me young...), and I was happy with the pairing happening. Ow, did that hurt.
Hey what do you say: care to share if you ever do the rewatch?

Date: 2017-04-16 08:53 pm (UTC)I did know that House/Cuddy became a thing. I always thought Cuddy was great, and I liked her, and her dynamic with House, in the early seasons ... I thought it was a bit regrettable, though, that in the later seasons she was more and more pushed into the corner of the female character who has a crush on the main guy, and gets ruined over it, while the main guy is just being a massive disaster and incapable of having a relationship. That ruined it a bit for me. Their bickering was great, though.
I'll definitely let you know if I ever end up rewatching! We're even in the same time zone. :D

Date: 2017-04-16 08:57 pm (UTC)And yay for Doctor Who! I'm also very excited about it coming back; I'm currently in a "love" phase of the love-hate relationship, so I'll definitely be posting about that. :D
In conclusion, adding back!

Date: 2017-04-16 09:24 pm (UTC)Oh, I know what that's like. DW somehow has that ability to either get it totally right or so fucking wrong sometimes.
