Describe yourself in 5 sentences or less:
I'm a bi poly non-binary-ish Aussie who is passionate about social justice and aviation. I fly gliders on the weekends. I'm doing The PhD That Will Not Die (Road Safety/Cognitive Psychology/Situation Awareness) but it's almost done now (allegedly)... FWIW, I've been keeping this blog continuously since 2001 (originally at LJ, but here exclusively since 2010).

Top 5 fandoms: I enjoy a variety of media, but I rarely do more than dip my toe in online fandom for the occasional work avoidancereading binge of reviews and analysis on a particular topic. That said, I do enjoy a good analysis/geek-out about Doctor Who, which over its 50 year life has provided a great deal of fertile ground for geekouts and theorising. :-)

So if I had to pick 5, they might be:

• Battlestar Galactica
  
• Mad Max:Fury Road
  
• ...? Infinitely variable. I suck at "my favourite X" type lists, because my faves vary according to my mood.

I mostly post about: My longer posts are most often about my aviation exploits, along with some travel posts and other occasional personal stuff. I also sometimes write about my arty-crafty activities or my household critters (cats, fish and a horse) and now and then I throw in the occasional bit of geeking-out about a topic that grabs my attention, or a vehement and colourful rant (most likely to be about queer or political issues, crap customer service, or iTunes And Its Evil Ways).

My last 3 posts were about:

• A photo-essay about a trip to New Zealand to attend an airshow during a cyclone;
  
• Grumbling about the imminent cyclone, which I found out about when I arrived in NZ;
  
• A discussion of various ways to fly a glider sideway, along with a short video clip of an interesting flight.

How often do you post: I generally write a longish post every month or so on average, along with the occasional shorter piece when the mood strikes me.

How about commenting: I comment when I have something to say. Which means to say: I rarely post "cool!" or "me too!" comments, but if someone is asking for advice or info on a topic that I have opinions on, I may say something; or if I have a strong reaction to something I may speak up.

Heya :) I'm in NZ. Sorry we turned on bad weather for your arrival. Here we are again expecting another cyclone at the end of this week, although it's still a bit early to tell how NZ will be affected. Fingers crossed we avoid a direct hit.

I love Dr Who and Torchwood, though I don't think to the degree of fandomhood. I'm not really into fandoms. I also really like planes, although I don't fly myself. I'd be keen to see all your glider pics and hear stories about flying.

I'm a nurse, into nature in a big way and also an animal lover (esp cats). I battle with a few mental health issues, especially anxiety, which I may or may not write about sometimes. I'll add you so you can learn a bit more . Let me know if you'd like to be friends. :)

Another cyclone? That's just NOT RIGHT. My sympathies, and I hope it stays far from you and yours.

Do you have any particular aviation interests or favourite aircraft types, or is your interest more general? Anyway, you seem really nice, and I look forward to learning more about you. :-)

Yep. The weather starts to pack it in tomorrow with another front, which is going to join forces with Cyclone Donna as she either passes alongside us, or over the top on Friday. Obviously hoping for alongside us, yeah.

No particular interest. I'm just fascinated by planes and flying in general. I also like trains and boats. I used to live in a wee downstairs flat on a hill above the airport. I would watch the planes go in and out all day sometimes, and all night from my bed (which had floor to ceiling windows which no-one could see in). It was magic. Loved that flat.

That flat sounds like AvGeek heaven! Partner and I enjoy lurking near airports and doing a bit of plane-spotting from time to time; how much nicer it must be to do it from the comfort of one's own bed. :-)

Later I will and find you some photos of my view, if you would like. I had a 360 view of the harbour, some beaches on the coast, the airport, and of many of the suburbs on the hills. It was a very wealthy area (because of the views), but I was a poor new grad nurse at the time renting a teeny downstairs studio flat. It was also only minutes from some beautiful bush walks, which both me and my cat thoroughly enjoyed. I didn't have a digital camera back then, so I may have to find some images on google if I can. They probably won't be my view exactly but they'll give you an idea.

The airport was only a 25min walk away, and sometimes I used to go down to the coffee lounges there to get a closer view and enjoy a latte while I was about it. My workmates used to think that was a very odd past time! Guilty as charged - I'm an odd girl.

Your glider photos are fantastic. I've also been at this blog on LJ since 2001, DW since 2009. I also enjoy photography and cats and Mad Max: Fury Road and suspect we have other intersecting interests. Have added you; hope that's OK!
