Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
I am an aspiring writer, struggling with (undiagnosed) depression, anxiety and sleep deprivation. I’m pretty chill with mutuals I get to know and follow back, and at least three of them followed me here from LiveJournal in 2012, but I haven’t spoken to them in ages since they’re not really active on Dreamwidth or Tumblr (I suspect they’ve abandoned fandom life altogether and that’s understandable tbh). I’m a lurker primarily, so how much I participate in discussion or fandom depends on my level of enthusiasm (interest in the topic) and how much I can be arsed to comment on anything, so if you don’t get an immediate response, it’s nothing personal, it’s just me being me. How much time I spend on Dreamwidth ultimately depends on the level of fandom activity or how often my mutuals are online and willing to talk to me themselves.

Top 5 Fandoms:
I haven’t had a fandom I was proactive in in years tbh. But if you mean my current media interests then right now it’s (1): Smallville, (2): Train to Busan, (3): Star Wars (in a very fringe sense), (4): The Last Guardian, (5): Assorted Final Fantasy games (specifically XII, VIII, and XV).

I mostly post about:
My Dreamwidth is primarily used for personal posts. There is fandom content from my LiveJournal that was imported, and I still intend on using the blog for fanmixes and icons, but largely it has been used for personal comments I’d rather not have on tumblr.

My last three posts were about:
Me contemplating about the creation my LiveJournal Blog in 2008, writing prompts from an old Heroes blog and me finally deleting my LiveJournal Blog.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
My instagram profile reads: Modern quilter, permaculture gardener, unrepentant foodie, cat servant, Jesus freak. For fandom I would add femme-focused fan, especially loves the stoic ladies of action, prolific writer, occasional metababbler. I'm an Australian of Chinese descent, a Christian progressive, a social introvert, and I have a tendency to overshare with strangers on the internet and in real life...

Top 5 Fandoms:
Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rogue One, Pacific Rim, Stargates (Atlantis and SG1), and...well, probably Wonder Woman/Justice League this year. Otherwise I have a load of old and beloved fandoms in which I've been semi active through the years...

I mostly post about:
Lately, politics. When the plotbunnies are stymying me then it's writing woes and how the characters won't do what I want them do. Otherwise fandom commentary, my crafts (quilting, bagmaking, dressmaking), my family, my faith, my thoughts... My DW/LJ has always been a dumping ground for everything that I don't want pent up inside, or things that I want to discuss or think about, or come back to later.

My last three posts were about:
Uh. The ElJay situation.

My last three topics were:
The ElJay situation, political/social/faith-related links, writer's block.

How often do you post? How about commenting?
Usually at least once a week, frequently several times a week. I try to comment on other people's entries once a day, but it doesn't always happen...

jo: (Default)
[personal profile] jo
Name: My username here is a shortened form of my first name.
Age: Soon to be 54 later this month.
Location: Canada (more precisely, Toronto).

Tumblr/Goodreads/IG, etc:? I am on Twitter (@procedurepols), but it's not a personal account -- follow it only if you are really interested in Westminster parliaments and politics (UK, Canada, AUS and NZ primarily). I did create a Goodreads account a few years ago and have since completely ignored it. I was briefly on FB but hated it and deleted my account over 3 years ago. I have a separate wordpress blog that I use to write about parliamentary procedure and related matters. So that's it.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: Married to a younger man, Table Research Clerk for the provincial Assembly, two pet degus, like to cook, read, try to keep fit, love, love, love my job, find it sad that that what I do bores the pants of pretty much everyone else because parliamentary procedure is, quite frankly THE BEST thing on the planet. I am most likely one of those "elites" everyone keeps warning us about. Atheist, no kids, slightly aspergic, sarcastic and definitely an introvert.

Top 5 fandoms: I always thought "fandom" simply meant really liking a show, and then discovered it was a whole lot more than that. I don't do fandoms. I do have a number of TV shows that I really enjoy and will happily discuss, but, as a general rule, I don't do/read fanfic, make gifs, get all into the actors and all that sort of thing. Some of my current fave shows that I will happily discuss with others are: The Expanse, Outlander, Vikings, Black Sails, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Star Trek (all of them, even Enterprise), The Fall, Unforgotten, Silent Witness, The Last Kingdom, Designated Survivor and a bunch of others. I quite like TV, not much into movies.

That said, I guess I do have one real fandom -- parliamentary procedure. I totally fangirl over UK House of Commons Speaker John Bercow.

I mostly post about... Just the goings-on in my life -- work, personal, etc. I don't tend to discuss politics much because my job requires me to be totally neutral. I'd talk about TV shows more, but don't seem to have any current friends who share the same interests in that area. Would love to connect with other fans of any of the shows listed above. I am not exciting. You have been warned.

My last three posts were about... I did up a sticky post for how I plan to use my Dreamwidth journal - e.g. policies re: subscribing/granting access; the latest installment of the 30-day music challenge thing I'm doing this month; and a general post with a few bits and bobs of daily news. My husband and I are moving apartment at the start of May, so a lot of my posts for now have to do with moving-related matters.

How often do you post? How about commenting? Posting: I would say that I post at the very minimum of once a week. More often, I post daily, or at least every other day, and some days I may post more than once in a single day. Then occasionally, I won't post anything for 10 days or so. I'm a researcher, so my work means I do a lot of writing, and sometimes I just don't have the energy to post on LJ. The vast majority of my posts are access-only, so if you go over to check me out, you won't see much. However, I have started doing some public posts to track what books I read (I know that's what Goodreads is for, but I can't be arsed to use that site at all) and I am trying to think of other semi-regular things I could post publicly. Most of what I post gets cross-posted to LJ.

Commenting is a whole other kettle of fish. I read my friends' entries daily, and usually check in several times a day in the hopes that someone has posted something. However, I comment only if I have something to add. And when it comes to new people, I might go weeks, maybe months before I start commenting regularly because it takes me time to get a sense of you, understand the people in your life, what's going on, etc., especially if you have some complicated, long-running family or other dynamics happening. I'm like that in real life too -- I don't talk much unless I have something valuable to contribute, and prefer to listen when new people are around until I get a proper feel for them. I don't do small talk (as mentioned above, I'm on the ASD scale -- Aspergers). So while I may not say much, especially at first, please do know that I am reading everything you post.

A GIF to describe how your day has been today so far: I don't do gifs.

Other: As I said, my journal is mostly access only, so just go ahead and subscribe to me. I will grant you access so you can see what I'm like. If we don't click, just unfriend me -- I won't take it personally. I mostly keep my journal for my own sake. It's nice if others are interested in my life, but not mandatory!

Top 5 Fandoms:
Marvel Universe, almost all of it. Charles De Lint's books (not exactly a big fandom!), I would add gaming and larping rather than fandoms, especially Megagames at the moment
I mostly post about:

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: I really suck at these. I'm very private yet introspective when I want to be. I'm too nerdy for RL but at times don't feel nerdy enough for the internet, although it may be the "geek" factor I lack. I managed to do this in five sentences. Happy? ;)

Top 5 fandoms: Okay, I should mention that I don't POST much about these, although I do love reading/writing meta and fanfic about them. Harry Potter, Parks and Recreation, Buffy, Firefly, Mad Men, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Since DW seems a bit more fandom focused than LJ has been the past few years, I may do more fandom things here.

I mostly post about... Social commentary (trying to keep it fairly non-political, although I do get political at times), social media/fandom commentary, entertainment things, writing (or lack thereof!) and other musings. I post a bit about my personal life as well.

My last three posts were about... NOT including posts I imported from LJ, A set of Harry Potter fanfic drabbles, a meme where I talked about not wanting kids and my thoughts on religion (separately), and a filk (song parody) about the LJ debacle titled "Platform That I Used to Know."

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: Recovering anxious cinnamon roll. Very gay. Very geeky. I think too much for my own good and am trying to be less socially awkward now that I'm no longer a ball of anxiety. Come yell at me about how wonderful Yuuri/Victor is. <3

Top 5 Fandoms: I'm serially monofannish so I really only do one fandom at a time for as long as possible. I'm currently deeply in love with Yuri!!! On Ice <3 and I'm reading a metric fuckton of fic (and saving all the recs to my AO3 Recs Collection. My previous fandom was Merlin and I wrote a LOT for that one. Before that was Doctor Who. And before that was BtVS/AtS, Stargate SG-1, Due South, and X-Files, in reverse chronological order. I am Old School.

I mostly post about: RL stuff and YOI squee, the occasional fic. When I had more free time I used to do a lot of fannish infrastructure and multimedia, then I got the writing bug and wrote some giant angsty longfics.

My last three posts were about: A YOI fic and several posts about how my life has changed now that I have a properly managed neurochemistry. \o/ It's really nice to have a functioning level of serotonin, who knew?

How often do you post? How about commenting? I'm admittedly sparse on posting these days, but I do try to check in a few times a month. Sometimes I'll have spurts of activity. RL has been kinda crazy but I do want to get back to writing eventually. I fully admit to being terrible at commenting as I am a born lurker. But I'm trying to be more social these days so who knows?

hollymath: (Default)
[personal profile] hollymath
Name: Holly
Age: 35
Location: I live in Manchester, UK. I'm from Minnesota.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: Hollymath is a pun on my name and also on the word polymath, "a person of great and varied learning." I don't know about great, but my learning is certainly varied.

I'm a carer for my autistic husband and I volunteer with various projects helping blind people, immigrants, women and bisexuals (or LGBT+ people more generally but I'm always looking out for the bi people most of all). I am, perhaps not coincidentally, a bisexual immigrant woman and I'm what's called legally blind in the U.S. and registered blind in the UK.

I'll never be the writer young-me wanted so badly to be, but I'm working on a book about immigration in the UK, which I have Kickstarted to pay for the extortionate UK citizenship fees.

Top 5 fandoms: Space (and science generally, but especially space), linguistics, dogs, baseball, and Hamilton.

I mostly post about... Lots of politics lately, what with Trump and Brexit, but I try to keep it about constructive, positive things that might actually help. Also my dog, my husband, my boyfriend, being disabled, my mental health (I have depression and anxiety), being an immigrant, random things that happen in my life, and the stuff mentioned in the fandoms above.

My last three posts were about... A friend's birthday celebration, a couple things about the LJ/DW changeover (which I'm counting as one to make this answer slightly more representative), and a post about Minnesota politics that I was assured was of interest to at least a few people who aren't from Minnesota!

How often do you post? A few times a week. It varies depending on my mental health. How about commenting? I think I comment a lot? I read everything, anyway; I love blogging and the community surrounding it here.

Name: earthspirits (I was also earthspirits on LJ, before I deleted my account there, back in January).
Age: Over 21
Location: U.S.A.
Tumblr/Goodreads/IG/etc: I post my fan fiction over at Archive of Our Own (A03) as earthspirits.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less:  I'm a life long artist, writer, and avid reader, happily married to my best friend, and with 2 adorable cats in residence.  I believe in tolerance, empathy, respect, and compassion, and am liberal, intellectually curious, with an upbeat and positive outlook.  I love nature and animals, and respecting our Mother Earth, and am most at home in the great outdoors. That said, I also love to curl up with a good book and a mug of herb tea on a rainy day, and stay indoors where it's warm and cozy.

Top 5 Fandoms:  I have lots more than 5 favorite fandoms, but here's a few of my current fav's: Once Upon a Time, Versailles, Penny Dreadful, Black Sails, Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes (most especially the Jeremy Brett version), Lewis, Grantchester, Emerald City.

I mostly post about: Art, nature, the environment, gardening, and nature photography + writing / reading, spirituality (primarily Goddess / Pagan and Buddhist, but I'm respectful of all spiritual paths) + my fan fiction.  I also sometimes post everyday life entries, or discuss politics, and the world situation. Most of my entries are open, but occasionally some things are friend-locked. For additional subjects that I sometimes write about, please see the "interests" section of my DW Profile.

My last three posts were about: The first 2 chapters of the new OUAT Killian Jones / Emma Swan fan fic I'm currently writing, and my nature photography.

Seeking: Folks who are mature adults (no one under 18, sorry), who are liberal, compassionate, tolerant, reasonable, and honest. Artists, writers, creative types, and book lovers are always welcome!

How often do you post? How about commenting? I usually post at least once or twice a week (sometimes more if I have the time). I also comment on other folks' journals, although not always as much as I'd like, due to having a busy work schedule. That said, I do read my circle.

I've also been using Instagram (@huggerofcats), occasionally Pinterest (username also huggerofcats), and a few other sites on and off. I think I'm fine with listing these accounts here, but I'd prefer that my Dreamwidth account is kept more private. Basically, I won't talk about this account on most other sites and would like others to do the same.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less:

Ummm.... I'm an INTP who doesn't always fit the stereotype, and in other personality-typing systems, I'm an RLUEI  in the Global 5 system (meaning my dominant traits are reserved, limbic, unstructured, egocentric, and inquisitive) a 4w5 in the Enneagram system. I also have multiple health conditions that are a huge part of my life right now (not in a good way), so I think those are worth mentioning when it comes to who I am right now. I am disabled and currently live with my parents and three cats, and I probably won't be looking forward to moving out until we get a decent treatment plan figured out. My cats--and all other cats I've met to some degree--are really important to me, I love spending time around animals in general, and I've always had a thing for shocking concepts in art (especially music) and science. I also spend a lot of time playing games and have no clue what I'm going to do with my life--or tomorrow for that matter.

Top 5 Fandoms:

I'm not sure if any of these count as fandoms, but I'll list five things I've been into lately: MBTI/personality typing (if that's not obvious), music that's constantly changing (though I currently really like Joywave), dark art, psych/neurology stuff (especially "abnormal psych" if that's what it's called), traveling, etc. I don't think I've been too involved in Fandoms for most of my life. I'll get really into something (maybe a show or very specific artist) every now and then, but I usually analyze it on my own. Plus that kind of thing can be bad for my mental health for some odd reason.

I mostly post about:

Most (if not all) of my posts are about my life, and if I stick around on this site, they'll probably change a lot as my life changes. I made this journal primarily as a way to fight dissociation/memory loss; I do a lot of things I think I'd remember and don't remember them. So this is meant to be a log of what's going on in my life. Lately, it's been pretty centered on getting treatment for my health conditions--and my health in general--so that's something to expect. Because I'm trying to feel less zoned out and more involved in my brain and the world, I might try to write down thoughts about various things... most likely things that are related to my interests. Some entries might include some triggering subjects, but I try to put a warning on them (along with a reason or reasons for the warning).

Posting and commenting:

How often I post will probably remain pretty inconsistant. To me honest, I haven't posted in a while, but I've been trying to keep up with others' entries. Commenting is also a problem for me: For no obvious reason, it can send me into or close to panic... or it can make me zone out even more--something that isn't helpful at all. Basically, I may not comment or respond to comments much, but it has nothing to do with you!!!

My last three posts were about:

I'll just list the last three titles.

Struggles with Human Interaction (locked, NSFW), Old Memories and New Changes, Feeling Emotions and Actually in Sync with Them for Once (for better or worse) (also locked, NSFW).

A GIF to describe how your day has been so far:

I sadly don't save many gifs, but the ones posted on other group members' entries are pretty relatable.

Hopefully this makes sense and isn't too confusing! I've been having a lot of brain fog today, and reading what I've written isn't easy.

Describe yourself in five sentences or less:
i'm terrible at these! i'm a gay-married wife and cat mom. by day i work as a legal executive assistant at a major law firm, and by night i am a perfumer/small business owner. i'm a big reader and for the past 4 or so years i've only read books by and about women. i like thoughtful discussions just as much as excited flailing. all my personality types are cusps: virgo/libra, enfj/entp, and slytherclaw.  um, feel free to ask anything else you're curious about!

Top 5 Fandoms:
AGH okay, currently? in no specific order: harry potter, criminal minds, leverage, merlin, jane the virgin (i just started marathoning this last weekend and i'm HOOKED). BUT I ALSO LOVE: miss fisher's murder mysteries, gone girl, sailor moon, legend of the seeker, psych, life is strange (bae > bay), salem, and some others! more generally, i'm a fan of female-centric horror and thrillers and ya fiction.

I mostly post about:
work, social life (i run a lesbian-only meetup group which is fun), stories about our cat children, what i'm currently reading (articles and books), and some politics/feminism. i used to be hugely into u.s. politics but now that's a disaster i don't want to think about, so mostly anything related to that is about more interpersonal or community stuff rather than elections, etc.

My last three posts were about: excluding one that promo'd this community: 1) a major wholesale order i received + some book recs + snippet about worldbuilding of a novel i'm working on; 2) fandom woes + work being slow; 3) a brief but riveting update on some personal drama (in which i was totally in the right)

How often do you post? How about commenting?

Socialist, feminist, kinky and queer (ish). Book lover, social media addict, and couch potato. Wannabe academic, procrastinator and general gobby cow. I tend to speak before I think and I'm *that* person who never responds to your texts.

Top 5 fandoms: I'm not so much of a 'fandom' person these days - most of my major ones have long faded away :(. I couldn't really give a top 5, my major fandom was Queer as Folk (US). I also dabbled a bit in SPN, X-Factor 2010, Top Gear (with Clarkson oc), Dr Who (11 mainly), Brokeback Mountain, and randomly British politics around the 2010 election...

I mostly post about... my life, often through memes and surveys. I fell out of posting regularly but I miss having a place to splurge. Occasional squees about things that excite me.

I rarely post about... political opinion (I have my views but I always think I'm a bit rubbish at articulating them and I hate arguing with people).

My last three posts were about...I've only posted twice on DW! On LJ... er, why I'm starting to use my DW acct (long story short more personal than political), and two posts about my Dad dying (how cheery)

Top 5 Fandoms:

Alice Isn't Dead

I mostly post about: Real Life, Inworld life (which is still real to us), and fandom. I have 3 filters: a filter for more private plural system stuff (can be trigger and spoiler heavy at times), a self-care reminder filter, and a not-very-active cheerleading/to do list filter (that used to be for writing but have since expanded it to everything)

My last three posts were about: not including the one promoting this group - a post about a class we're trying at the day program/adult education program we go to for people with mental health challenges, a post giving the heads up that we aren't leaving LJ but are still using dreamwidth as our primary home with an insanejournal backup, and a post discussing church/Communion Service (we go to a UU church that has a quarterly Communion Service).

How often do you post? How about commenting?
I post fairly regularly. I read fairly regularly. I comment irregularly because of spoon and brain-weasel reasons. A lot of times they'll come late and in binges on old posts, unless I see some crosstalk that really catches my attention. I hope you all don't mind that. We have a pretty clear journaling culture post linked in our top post (which has a million important-ish links). I mostly post about: My excellent punk rock clown of a partner, my (mostly failed) efforts at polyamory, my shitty relationship with capitalism, my friendships, some snippets of borderline magical realism and miscellaneous bullshit.

My last few LJ posts were about: My multi-tiered garden spilling down the hill, feeling torn between supporting a friend in need and telling her to fuck off, the odds of the Rooskies being particularly interested in such things. There's some incredible stuff buried in my tags, mostly under 'fiction', but I quit being interesting quite a few years back.

How often do you post? How about commenting? Aw, maybe every week or two. When I'm there I try to stay engaged and comment, but it's difficult, whether because there are too many people posting too much interesting stuff, or because too many people are crappy writers.

I'd like to make you welcome on my page. Hopefully neither of us will regret it. If we do, may I suggest pistols at dawn, 20 paces? Your place or mine?

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: SDET by day at Big Fish Games, author and musician by night. I'm a hybrid author with a fantasy trilogy out via Carina Press, and the first two books of an urban fantasy series self-published. I'm also an amateur musician, very fond of Quebecois traditional music, and I play flutes, whistles, guitar, a tiny bit of bouzouki and mandolin, and a slowly increasing amount of fiddle (I'm taking lessons!).

Top 5 fandoms: Elfquest, The Dragonriders of Pern, and Star Wars, all of whom were fandoms for which I was active on MUSHes for years, and in the case of Pern, offline RP as well. Although I never RPed in the fandoms or wrote fanfic for them, my other two top ones would be the Tolkienverse and Star Trek.

I mostly post about: These days it's updates on my writing as well as periodic geeking out about taking fiddle lessons. I also semi-periodically post language geekery as I am doing extremely slow multi-lingual rereads of The Lord of the Rings as well as the first Harry Potter book.

My last three posts were about: Two about my ongoing work to migrate my LJ content over here, and one about a forthcoming surgery I'm having for my badly deviated septum (FUN!).

How about commenting?: I'm a more active commenter on social media, since my author presence is on Facebook and Twitter. But if I'm reading you on Dreamwidth, I WILL periodically try to answer your posts.

A GIF to describe how your day has been so far: This one seems appropriate. ;)

Describe yourself in five sentences or less: Invisibly disabled poor queer poly writer and part-time casual-core gamer girl trapped in a Red State hell. Ok, it's not quite that bad - at least I've got my wifey and our three cats. We're holding it together so far at least, and these days that's just going to have to be good enough.

Top 5 7 Fandoms: Visual Kei. Harry Potter. GetBackers. Stargate (SG-1&Atlantis). Yarn (shh, totally counts). Doctor Who. Transformers (G1).

I mostly post about: Currently, the most common topic is progress and woes related to the house me and wifey just moved into late last month. Also regular references to my writing (mis)adventures. And our three cats and their tendencies to fail at catting and/or be rude/adorable little assholes/cuddlebuckets.

My last few LJ posts were about: The level of random detritus left in the two other major areas of the house, fic/Patreon updates, yesterday's severe thunderstorms/tornadoes, The Death of LJ and nostalgia for the jrock fandom of the past.

How often do you post? How about commenting? I am currently on a thing where I'm trying to post every day. It ... hasn't managed to go for more than a couple weeks before something happens to disrupt my flow. I'm pretty good at reading, but I am admittedly completely balls at commenting. I blame my modest social anxiety issues.

My journal is almost entirely access-locked because I'm actually pretty private (and have (semi-ancient) history of stalkers), but I could use some more friends. Who knows, I might even talk about more than just asshats and people who should be fired out of cannons. (Not to be confused with canons).
