Describe yourself in five sentences or less: Hagar, 33, Israeli, female pronouns. Fannish writer and occasional podficcer. (Personal content always locked/filtered.) Potentially very chatty, but I'm out of practice being part of a fannish community - my fannish communities fell apart when the great LJ migration started happenning, and new ones just didn't spring up. That was 2009-ish, so it seriously feels like I'm learning to speak again.

Top 5 fandoms: Shadowhunters (I'm there for the C-PTSDed grown child soldiers; the Actually Healthy romance is a bonus, not a main attraction), Killjoys, Cleverman, Judaica. Also Person of Interest, Leverage, Power Rangers (most seasons) and a bunch of others.

I mostly post about: Stories or other projects I'm working on, episode responses when my shows are in season, random commentary about life (weather, anecdotes, the rare recipe).

I rarely post about: ...anything not the above?

My three last posts were about: Last three public posts were about pillowfort, my current WIP, and the weather (summer's finally easing off over here!)

How often do you post? Oh, goodness, this varies. I'm aiming for a few times a week.

How about commenting? Yeah, this varies, a lot. I can't give any rules of thumb here. Do consider yourself always welcome to comment, though.

Hi! You seem like someone I'd like to follow! I'm currently watching Leverage for the first time and loving it (while simultaneously not feeling clever enough to write fanfic for it. I'd never really considered Judaica as a fandom, but looking at your fics over at AO3, you've got me interested. (I've been considering converting [Reform] for years - at the moment I'm saved from having to make a decision because even if I decide for certain I want to convert, there's no way I can do grad school and conversion classes at the same time. So in the meantime I'm just making an effort to learn as much as I can.) Anyway, I've followed you here and at AO3 - I'm just this summer starting to rebuild my online fannish communities after the various LJ collapses.

Leverage stands up to time remarkably well. The fandom is stable and still lively, too, which is anything but obvious.

And yeah, Jewish fandom is a Thing! I used to have more Jewish peeps on DW, but none of them are active anymore. purimgifts is pretty much the annual meetup.

Yeah, I'd have to look, but I think I'm subscribed to a couple but neither have had any activity since I joined. Maybe I chased them away. I was on weirdjews at LJ years ago, but the lack of knowledge of Israel by the American Jews (contrary to their wealth of opinions) on there angered me too much, so I dropped off.

I have a vague recollection of weirdjews, but I don't think I was a member - at the time I was hanging out strictly in the fannish wing. (And then I decided Judaism is a fandom, because what's midrash if not fanfic and fannish meta? Plus the Judaica fandom is cool, even if we only throw one party a year.)

Yeah, you didn't chase anyone off. Glanced at your profile - we share at least one comm, and I'm pretty sure it hasn't been active in years and years. I wouldn't know where to start or relivening it.

...okay I'm going to say it because (1) the way you mentioned Israel makes me think you're local and (2) we ran into each other twice now, so the joke needs to be said: פעם שלישית גלידה?

Nope, not local .. well, except I'm a NYer, so that's *almost* like being local? (I've been to Israel a couple times. It made me angry .. and still does .. to hear Americans pass judgement or form opinions without knowing the history of the region, the history of the state, the philosophy of the current leader and the opinions of the citizens).

My Hebrew is limited to being able to read the characters without knowing most of the words (unless they are in the Torah; which I may understand slight better). And if you're not using vowels, I'm truly lost! But Google tells me your joke says "Third time ice cream?", which BirthRight Israel tells me is the equivalent of "Third time's a charm". I've been told I have an addictive personality, but never a charm :P

"Third time ice cream" is a thing said on the second or third time running into someone by chance; in true Hebrew pro-drop fashion, it means "Okay, if the universe tossed us at each other three times now, we need to go have ice cream and figure out why." Said on the second time of running into someone, it's a "Are we going to wait for the third time or call it now?"

Given the high rate of lactose intolerance among the Jewish population, that's a very odd colloquialism! I mean, it essentially says, we've met twice, let's go get sick together. :P

The idiom dates to well before lactose intolernace (or rather, awareness of it) was a Thing. But yeah, half this country lives on milk, half this country can't process it. (It's an Ashkenazi/Mizrachi thing, but I never remember which is which half.)

If I had discovered Leverage just a couple of months ago, I would have gone to the Leverage panel at WisCon! (The fact that they're still having panels says *tons* about the fandom.) One of these days I'm going to try my hand at a Leverage fic, but it's an intimidating fandom for me to write in because I feel like I have to be Ridiculously Clever.

Hi there! I love Leverage and its magical cousin, The Librarians. They're not super-central fandoms at the moment but they're both things I love. I also like Shadowhunters for the reason you mentioned. I'm behind on everything now due to work and distraction, but I'm also similar in my blogging habits. Trying to become more consistent by also knowing other consistent dreamwidth users, so if you'd like to subscribe to each other I'd be open to it.
